Very Good! ...but needs a while for transition
Datum:20.11.2009 - Rating: 5/5Due to quite mixed comments when asking people in the UK and over here in DE it's hard to really judge on this product in professional use, however, considering what you get for the money with this Home-Student version and based on my own experiences so far, I do rate this product five stars.
I have been using MS Office 2003 at work for some years (Word files 50 MB+) and have used OpenOffice privately since MS Office 2003 is quite pricey. I have found that OpenOffice (even the latest version) is always screwing up my Word documents with formatting problems plus some other things, beside the fact that it's very slow in comparison. Not really compatible and a workflow slowdown.
When I open, edit and save the same documents with MS Office 2007 (Home-Student) all problems with formatting and buggy, slow behavior become a thing of the past. But since the usability is so different from the MS Office 2003 version, it takes some time to get used to this new ribbon based style, however, it's worth the effort, runs like a breeze. Plus it's the standard suite of office programs used in ALL companies (except those still working with the 2003 version). Just another reason to get used to this software.
Limitation of my comments:
My own experience with this office version is based on rather small files in private use, I can't tell about the behavior with e.g. very large Word documents, huge tables and the like.
In summary: (in comparison to MS Office 2003)
+ great price/value relation
+ three licenses included (private use)
+ improved usability (trade off see below --)
+ compatibility mode (edit/save 2003 documents without loss)
+ smoother formatting
+ faster file handling
+ higher overall stability
-- usability differs very much from 2003, but no legacy menus provided

This package, in my point of view, is providing a great value for creating standard MS Office documents within a personal environment. Highly recommended!
Vom Profitool zum Spielzeug
Datum:01.11.2007 - Rating: 2/5Seid Office 95 hat sich Office von Version zu Version immer weiterentwickelt und verbessert. Jetzt jedoch hat Microsoft mit einem mutigen Schritt alles neu gestaltet und damit - leider - ein völlig anderes Produkt geschaffen. Sicher wird es hierfür viele Anhänger geben weil der Funktionsumfang natürlich sehr groß ist. Jedoch dürfte sich der traditionelle Office-Anwender in diesem Produkt kaum noch wiederfinden: Die kurzen (weil bekannten) Wege zum Ziel über die Menüstruktur sucht man vergeblich. Die Oberfläche wirkt sehr verspielt und die Funktionen sind nur noch über die grafischen Symbole zu finden. Versuchen Sie doch mal das Auffinden einer Funktion einem Freund über Telefon zu erklären. Sie werden vermutlich scheitern.
Office 2007 ist ein Programm für den Gelegenheitsnutzer. Zur Nutzung im ,Office' bleibe ich jedoch lieber bei Versionen bis Office 2003.
